The Banshee is a female fairy spirit from Irish folklore.
The word Banshee comes from the old Irish word “sÃde”, the name for the raised earth burial mounds found in Ireland and the UK and translates to “fairy of the burial mound”. The Banshee would sing a lament or mournful, wailing cry to alert when a family member died. Her wailing would also predict an impending death.
